A good shed - Tim Thompson - 01/07/2016
Originally I thought that this shed would be a rather boring building but, as so often with Sarissa, you look at the kit more closely and see that there is plenty of detail to excite the painter. The building sits on a brick platform to bring it up to the level of the rolling stock and to ease loading wagons on the other side (guess I will have to get a wagon to load). The top of the platform is paved outside the building and there is a wooden floor inside the shed. The single line of paving away from the rail is both inside and outside the shed which looks a little odd to my eye but may be based on an historical example for all I know. The building is a nice mix of brick features and rendered walls. I had always used sand and glue for rendering but this time gave the Vallejo "Sandy Paste" a go. Its a good product and gives your walls a good texture to dry brush. Don't use it on the small bit of walls protruding above the roof otherwise you will have difficulty getting the roof on. The build was very straightforward except for the canopy roofs. I found the supports kept popping out as I worked my way along fixing the roof to them. Also, they are pretty flimsy and I managed to break one. I have marked the building down on this score. Despite this point I would give the Goods Shed an overall recommendation. It sits very well in your goods yard with the Engine Shed and Signal Box as each looks pretty distinct.
